For indigenous Andeans in the Peruvian Altiplano, weaving had been both a celebrated tradition and way of life for hundreds of years. But modernization was forcing the newest generations to leave for the cities, and the communities’ cultural connections were being lost. We spent 4 weeks over the course of 2 years visiting rural villages, meeting families, and documenting their ancient craft. In partnership with National Geographic, Culture Xplorers, and the Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco, we brought their story to world conferences throughout the Americas in an effort to revive the forgotten traditions and help sustain their way of life.
